'Unnecessary' and inconsiderate pavement parkers shamed by police
Inconsiderate drivers who block pavements have been shamed by police online. Pictures have captured some even fully blocking off paths with all four wheels of their vehicles on the pavement.
The shocking sights were posted by Leicestershire Police following a series of pavements parkers across the county. On Monday (October 21), the force encountered a Nissan driver in Westcotes who had blocked a narrow path off with their car.
The Nissan, which was in Linkway Gardens, had all four wheels on the path, making it impassable for all. Officers from Leicester City Police said: "Pavement parking is not considerate as it prevents pedestrians from using the pavement and forces them into the road. PCSO Zed and Mark have been on Linkway Gardens this afternoon where this car was issues with a fixed penalty notice for causing unnecessary obstruction."

The car was not the only one to call out for problem parking by police. Officers over in the north west of the county, who cover areas including Coalville and Ashby, shared a picture of a van which had also blocked a path.
In the picture, which pixelated out the company details, police said: "Please be considerate of pedestrians when parking your vehicle and allow enough space for at least a double pushchair to get past your vehicle with ease on the footpath.
"As this photo demonstrates, this is NOT happening on this occasion. Owners of these vehicles will be notified and asked to consider the local community before they park!"
The police photos have attracted dozens of comments, with many calling out the drivers too. One said: "It’s sheer laziness and lack of regard for other people. Forcing parents to take the pushchair onto the road when they can’t see what’s coming. Same for people with disabilities. Highly dangerous."
A second said: "It's about time pavement parking was made illegal everywhere."
For those in Coalville, they said the issues were widespread. One said: "There is going to be a crash soon owing to pavement parking on Belvoir Road outside the supermarket near Lee Coopers and the pet shop on the corner of James Street." Another added: "Please feel free to be outside Broom Leys School between 2.30pm to 3.45pm - you will have your work cut out."
However, not all agreed with the police's shaming of pavement parkers. One said officers have "more important things" to tackle than this. They said: "Come on, sort it out now. Leicester is becoming a joke."
