The O2 arena’s American owner on Monday revealed the first retailers to open at a new high-end shopping outlet planned under the famous tented site in Greenwich.

AEG, working with property firm Crosstree Real Estate Partners, will open its 210,000 square feet Icon Outlet in October. It will include 85 stores.

Brands that have just inked deals to take space include handbags maker Aspinal of London, Calvin Klein, Hackett, Ted Baker, Gant and Levi’s.

Property agents CBRE and CWM advised on the lettings.

It is hoped the project will boost footfall during the day before evening concerts.

Alistair Wood, AEG's executive vice president for real estate and development, said the new outlet "brings an exciting new element to The O2’s offer, further increasing its appeal as a destination providing unique experiences”.

Crosstree’s Marion Dillon said it will help the O2 to evolve and become “where retail and entertainment converge”.

The development sits within the O2, including unused space on the upper level which had originally been earmarked for a casino, and elsewhere on the ground floor.
