Urgent CCTV appeal after man spotted with machete near Old Market Square in broad daylight
Police have issued CCTV images of people they would like to speak to after a man was spotted with a machete in Nottingham city centre in broad daylight. At around 5pm on October 10, 2024 a member of the public flagged down police officers in Old Market Square to report seeing the man with a weapon.
The individual was part of a larger group seen running towards Hurts Yard. It was also reported that the man accidentally dropped the machete as he ran onto Upper Parliament Street, and picked it up before continuing to run off.
Police have now launched an investigation into the incident. Officers have released images of individuals who they believe will be able to assist the force in its inquiries.
PC Adam Abid, of Nottinghamshire Police, said: "Carrying offensive weapons is extremely dangerous and will not be tolerated. We are doing everything we can to identify and apprehend those involved in this incident and would now like to appeal to the public for help.
“If you recognise anyone in these images, please get in touch with us as soon as possible. We are committed to making our communities safer and take a zero tolerance approach to offensive weapon and knife crime."
He added: "I’d therefore urge anyone who has information in relation to offensive weapons or knife crime to contact us so that we can continue to crackdown on offenders.” Anyone who recognises any of the pictured individuals should call 101 quoting crime reference 24*606296.
