The US army is working on developing a “tactical bra” for female soldiers, designed to better fit with body armour.

Four concept models are being trialled, and include options such as the inclusion of flame-retardant fabrics, according to Army Times.

“The overall goal is to produce garments that not only protect the user, but reduce the cognitive burden on the female Soldier caused by discomfort and ill fit,” said Ashley Cushon, clothing designer and project lead for the Army Tactical Brassiere.

“Achieving this will improve the soldier’s overall readiness and performance levels, allowing them to focus on their mission,” she explained.

The British army hands out sports bras to new recruits as standard. The Royal Navy recently announced sports bras would become part of its official working dress.
