US-Backed Forces Corner IS in Tabqa, Kurdish Reports Say

Fighting continued between the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and Islamic State in neighborhoods of Tabqa city, in Raqqa, on May 9.

Heavy airstrikes carried out by US-led coalition were reported to have hit IS positions on the northern outskirts of Tabqa.

Kurdish reports said the SDF had besieged Islamic State fighters in several districts of the city, cutting off access to them and to the Tabqa Dam nearby. The report said that IS were still using underground tunnels in several areas. Credit: YouTube/Hawar Agency via Storyful
