US coast guard Christopher Paul Hasson 'plotted mass terror attack on Washington' and Democrat leaders

A coast guard officer allegedly plotted a mass terror attack in Washington which included a hit list of leading Democrat politicians and journalists.

Christopher Paul Hasson, a self-proclaimed white nationalist, has been accused of planning to “murder innocent civilians on a scale rarely seen in this country”.

The 49-year-old was said to have based his preparations for the attack on a 1,500-word manifesto written by Norwegian mass killer Anders Breivik, who was convicted in 2012 of two terror attacks that killed 77 people.

He allegedly compiled an Excel “hit list” of Left-leaning politicians including House Speaker Nancy Pelosi , New York Congresswoman Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez , Senator Chuck Schumer — the top Democrat in the Senate — and 2020 presidential hopefuls Kamala Harris and Beto O’Rourke .

On the same day, he allegedly searched online for the “best place in dc to see congress people,” “where in dc to [sic] congress live,” “what if trump illegally impeached” and “are supreme court justices protected”.

The list also named CNN journalists Don Lemon, Chris Cuomo and Van Jones, and MSNBC’s Chris Hayes, Ari Melber and Joe Scarborough.

The former US Marine, who was based at the Coast Guard headquarters in Washington when he was arrested last Friday, was appearing in US District Court in Maryland today over alleged gun and drug offences.

Officers found 15 firearms and 1,000 rounds of ammunition when they raided Hasson’s home in Silver Springs, Maryland, the court heard.

But prosecutors say the initial charges were the “tip of the iceberg”. District Attorney Robert Hur said in court documents: “The defendant is a domestic terrorist, bent on committing acts dangerous to human life that are intended to affect governmental conduct.”

According to the court file, the Coast Guard agent followed Breivik’s manifesto and stockpiled steroids and human growth hormone “to increase his ability to conduct attacks”.

In an email dated June 2, 2017, Hasson was alleged to have written: “I am dreaming of a way to kill almost every last person on the earth.”

The US Coast Guard said it was co-operating with the FBI.
