This Is Us has officially returned to filming, and showrunner Dan Fogelman opted to confirm the news with what might potentially be the most 2020 photo ever.

Unlike so many TV shows being made across the world, the family drama managed to complete production on its fourth season before the ongoing coronavirus pandemic forced widespread industry shutdowns. Earlier this month though, NBC revealed that season five was set to start filming on September 24, ahead of its premiere in early November.

To commemorate being back to work, and to acknowledge the cast and crew's new normal, Fogelman took to Twitter to share a behind-the-scenes snap of Rebecca and Jack actors Mandy Moore – who just announced that she's pregnant with her first child – and Milo Ventimiglia.

In the pic, the two stars are wearing masks and standing on either side of a lot street, pretty much, as they point to one another. "A 2020 television sex scene. We're back," Fogelman joked.

"Never had a show been more sorely needed than now! Excited to see what you guys have in store for S5," one fan replied, as another added: "At least you're not using mannequins for the kiss scenes like the soap operas."

"I'm glad you're back but I hope all the cast and crew truly stays safe. You guys are more important than the show coming out early," a concerned third viewer wrote.

Fogelman previously teased that the new episodes will address the COVID-19 outbreak, as well as the recent Black Lives Matter marches.

"I can say this. I've had conversations with Dan [Fogelman, showrunner] and the writers from our show, and I know that the world is necessarily going to impact the world of the Pearsons, right?" actor Sterling K Brown – who plays Randall Pearson – told TV Line.

"He doesn't want us to be too specific with regards to what we'll be seeing in season five. I know that everyone is paying attention, and that our intention is to reflect the world in which we live."

This is Us airs on NBC in the US, and on Amazon Prime Video in the UK.
