Two Dead After F-16 Collides With Small Plane

Two people have been killed after their small plane collided midair with an F-16 fighter jet in South Carolina.

The military aircraft struck the Cessna C150 on Tuesday about 11 miles (17km) north of Charleston.

The F-16 pilot ejected and was taken to Shaw Air Force Base for observation, Lieutenant Jenny Hyden said.

He was believed to be "uninjured", National Transportation Safety Board (NTSB) spokesman Peter Knudson said.

Plane parts and debris rained down after the planes collided at about 11am local time.

Officials have not said if anyone on the ground was injured.

The debris was scattered over a wide, mostly marshy area, Berkeley County Coroner Bill Salisbury said.

Shaw AFB and the NTSB said they were investigating the crash.

The F-16 was attached to the 20th Fighter Wing.
