US-Led Airstrike Targets Ashur Hotel in Western Mosul
Combined Joint Task Force (CJTF) Operation Inherent Resolve officials released footage on March 18 purporting to show March 10 airstrikes “destroying an Islamic State headquarters building near Mosul.” The building was the downtown Ashur Hotel.
An Iraqi military report from March 11 said the Ashur Hotel was targeted in American airstrikes because it had served as an Islamic State military headquarters. Furthermore, a Department of Defense report issued on March 11 said that an Islamic State-controlled building was damaged in a series of four airstrikes near Mosul on March 10.
The area surrounding Ashur Hotel was captured by Iraqi forces on March 14, who in the time since have continued to push further northwest into Mosul’s Old City. Credit: DVIDS via Storyful
