A US man has been arrested after urinating on a Japanese passenger during a flight, according to local media.

The incident occurred aboard an All Nippon Airways flight from Chicago O'Hare to Narita International Airport last week, according to Fuji TV.

The 24-year-old suspect allegedly urinated on a 50-year-old Japanese man sat two rows behind him.

He was restrained by cabin crew and arrested by police after landing in Japan on Friday.

Police said the suspect, who has not been named, drank four glasses of champagne and a sake beforehand. He told police he could not remember the incident, according to Japan Today.

The victim said he did not know the man and there had been no previous contact.

The Independent has contacted All Nippon Airways for comment.

It comes after a high profile 2016 incident in which a shirtless man sparked a "massive brawl" aboard an Air Mediterranee flight when he urinated on a fellow passenger.

The plane was diverted to Lyon halfway through its 90-minute journey when the man became angry because he was not allowed to smoke or drink onboard.
