US Navy Conducts Rapid-fire Test With Electromagnetic Rail Gun

The US Navy’s Office of Naval Research conducted a rapid fire test of its new electromagnetic rail gun last week.

This footage, first released on July 20, shows the giant weapon shooting off shots in quick succession. The gun uses an electrical pulse to launch projectiles rather than traditional gunpowder, and can fire rounds at speeds that exceed Mach 6, or 4,500 miles per hour. It has been dubbed Star Wars technology by media outlets. Credit: US Navy via Storyful
