US President Trump failed to put his hand on the Bible when taking oath during ceremony
President Donald Trump did not place his hand on the Bible during his swearing-in earlier today. He stood with his left arm down by his side as he raised his right hand, instead of placing his hand on the stack of two Bibles held by first lady Melania Trump.
Donald Trump became America’s 47th president as he took the oath of office in Washington, D.C. Trump was supposed to put his hand on two different Bibles during the swearing-in ceremony, but failed to do so. Some said that Melania is to blame, for not bringing it quickly enough to her husband. Trump said: “I do solemnly swear (or affirm) that I will faithfully execute the Office of President of the United States, and will to the best of my ability, preserve, protect, and defend the Constitution of the United States."
The Mirror US said that the US constitution does not require a Bible for oath of office, but the tradition began back in 1789 when George Washington borrowed one from a Masonic Lodge in New York City. His inaugural committee announced on Friday that the same bibles he used in January 2017 would be present, one that Abraham Lincoln put his hand on in 1861 and a personal one gifted to him by his mother in 1955.

In his inaugural speech, Trump said that he was "saved by God to make America great again". He said: "My life was saved for a reason. I was saved by God to make America great again." He later added: "For American citizens, Monday January 20, 2025, is liberation day."
He also made a statement about the California wildfires, saying: "They're raging through houses and communities, even affecting some of the wealthiest and most powerful individuals in our country, some of whom are sitting here right now. They don't have a home any longer. That's interesting."
He also talked about the Mexican border with reference to immigration, saying: "I will send troops to the southern border to repel the disastrous invasion of our country." He said he would declare a national emergency with an executive order as one of his first orders of business after the ceremony.
He also said he would sign one declaring that there are only two genders: "As of today, it will henceforth be the official policy of the U.S. government that there are only two genders — male and female."
Trump wishes to change the Gulf of Mexico to the Gulf of America and of the Panama Canal, as he said: "We're taking it back."
