Sir Richard Branson-backed satellite telecoms firm OneWeb to open London office

Britain’s tech sector got a major vote of confidence on Friday, after a satellite telecoms giant backed by Sir Richard Branson’s Virgin Group chose to make a debut in London.

OneWeb, which wants to launch a constellation of satellites to provide worldwide broadband, has agreed a deal to open offices in White City.

It will relocate some work as early as November from the US to the UK, according to Property Week.

The company, valued at more than $2 billion, has offices in Virginia, California and Florida.

The London base will be 30,000 square feet at the WestWorks building, part of developer Stanhope’s and Mitsui Fudosan’s White City Place business district, comprising one million square feet of office space.

Other businesses that will based at White City Place include luxury fashion online retailer Yoox Net-A-Porter.

OneWeb, which is backed by Japan’s SoftBank as well as Branson, could not be reached for comment.
