US talk show host Charlie Rose has been suspended by several networks after he was accused of sexual harassment.

Eight women accused the 75-year-old of inappropriate behaviour in a report in the Washington Post.

CBS, PBS and Bloomberg have subsequently suspended Mr Rose, who conducts in-depth interviews on his Charlie Rose show.

"These allegations are extremely disturbing and we take them very seriously," said a CBS spokesperson.

The broadcaster shared a lengthy apology on Twitter, in which he also claimed not all of the allegations were accurate.

“I deeply apologise for my inappropriate behavior. I am greatly embarrassed,” he said.

"I always felt that I was pursuing shared feelings, even though I now realize I was mistaken."

He added: “I do not believe all of these allegations are accurate”.

The accusations were sparked by the public allegations of sexual harassment made against Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein.

Numerous actors, producers and other high-profile figures have also been accused of sexual harassment in recent weeks.
