Usain Bolt has begun his "trial" with German club Borussia Dortmund as the retired athlete weighs up whether to try and break into the professional game.

The 31-year-old is training with Dortmund - who, like the Jamaican, are sponsored by Puma - as Bolt tests out his skills to see if he has the abilities to become a footballer.

He was pictured being given a kit at the club's training base on Friday before undergoing strength exercises in the gym - which was watched by Marco Reus - and then participating in a game outdoors.

The lifelong Manchester United fan admitted this week the two-day trial with Dortmund, which began on Friday in front of fans, will determine whether or not he will pursue a career in the game.

"That will determine for me, personally, if I continue or if I say, 'You know what? I'm probably not good enough'. It's what happens in the next two days," Bolt told ESPN.

Bolt retired from athletics after losing his world title in London last year, and has made no secret of his desire to play football.

He participated in a charity match on Thursday, which was attended by Jose Mourinho, and joked that he had already spoken with the Portuguese about playing at United.

"I've definitely asked him for a spot on the team, but as I said, I just want to wait until after the trials to really push and to really pressure," Bolt added to ESPN.

"It's something I said to him, and he said, 'If you're serious, we'll see what happens,' so let's see what happens [this week]."
