'I used to eat a jar of mayonnaise every day - simple swap helped me lose 100lbs'
Self-confessed foodie Rach, who has been sharing her weight loss journey online, revealed how she used to eat a whole jar of mayonnaise every day.
But thanks to a clever change in eating, she managed to drop a whopping 100lbs. After looking into her consumption properly, the Brit, who now lives in Victoria, Australia, was "shocked" at how much mayonnaise was consuming - as she had "no idea". Rach, who weighed 17st 2lbs before she decided to make a change, was buying "at least" five jars of Hellman's mayonnaise a week, and sometimes more. She would end up eating half a jar, to a whole jar, of mayonnaise every single day.
In a recent TikTok video on her @rachnesta_ account, she shared her recent realisation that one 400g jar contains about 6,000 calories. "So when I had my minimum five jars of mayonnaise in a week, apparently, looking at the maths, that's 30,000 calories on mayonnaise," she continued. This also equated to spending about £50 a month on just mayo.

She didn't cut out mayonnaise completely from diet, but instead allows herself "about two tablespoons" with every meal. From cutting down, she's saved "about 60,000 calories a month". She also made another big change, which helped her lose 100lbs.
When explaining the first steps she ever took to lose weight, Rach explained in a previous video: "On a normal day of eating for me when I was 250lbs, I tracked my calories, sugar, protein, fibre, etc. and just saw what I would eat on a normal day. From there, I realised my big portions of eggy bread, mayonnaise, bacon, avocados, all that kind of stuff for breakfast, was probably not very good to start losing weight with."
Rach explained that she was in "complete denial" about the fact that it was her big portions that was preventing her from losing weights. So she then "went on a bunch of fad diets", and ended up going "back to eating loads". But everything changed when she started just eating wholefoods that hadn't been processed at all.
"I started eating those kinds of foods, and just a little bit of exercise, so like 3,000 steps a day, not that much, then everything kind of flowed on from there. Rach eventually upped her step count to about 10,000 steps a day, and stuck to eating unprocessed foods.
If you want to lose weight, the NHS recommends getting active for at least 150 minutes a week. You should also eat five portions (80g is one portion) of fresh, canned or frozen fruit or vegetables. You should also swap sugary drinks for water, cut down on food that's high in sugar and fat, and make sure to read food labels. "Products with more green colour coding than amber and red are often a healthier option," says the NHS.
