V&A Museum announces UK’s largest Christian Dior exhibition

An exhibition dedicated to Christian Dior will open at the V&A Museum next year.

Christian Dior: Designer of Dreams will be the largest and most comprehensive show on the House of Dior that has ever been staged in the UK, spanning from 1947 to the present day.

It will also be the museum’s largest fashion exhibition since the smash hit Alexander McQueen: Savage Beauty exhibition that opened in 2015.

The show will be based on an exhibition already staged at the Musée des Arts Décoratifs in Paris, but will be reimagined for London, with a new section that will explore the French designer’s fascination with British culture.

One of the highlights of the show will be the dress worn by Princess Margaret for her 21st birthday celebrations, which is on loan from the Museum of London.

As well as exploring the six artistic directors who succeeded Dior in running the fashion house including Yves Saint Laurent, it will look at Dior’s sources of inspiration and his vision of femininity, including his fragrances.
