Vacant Cambridgeshire pub faces last orders as flats plan lodged
A derelict Cambridgeshire town pub could be transformed into several new flats. Brook and Barter, on Market Square in St Neots, has been closed since 2021.
The venue has been vacant since closure and has since fallen into a state of disrepair. The applicants said they have considered restoring the site as a pub, but found that the nature of the site made it unrealistic.
It is now being earmarked for redevelopment with plans put forward for nine residential units. This includes six one-bed flats, two two-bed flats and a single two-bed dwelling.

A planning statement on behalf of applicants Hutchinsons said there was no guarantee that the pub could attract a future occupier, even after extensive refurbishment. They added that the development would bring back an important site within the Market Square.
It continued: "The former public house has been vacant for some time and is gradually deteriorating. It is also evident that the listed buildings have not been properly maintained over the years and show signs of significant deterioration.
"The proposal will bring back into use a commercial use within the Market Square frontage and will also bring residents into the town centre, the latter contributing towards the wider vitality of the town centre."
A decision on the application will be made by Huntingdonshire District Council at a later date. To view the plans in full, visit the planning portal, using the reference 24/01497/FUL or click here.
