Van Swept Away After Attempting to Cross Flooded Driveway in Nashville Suburb

A van was swept away by raging floodwaters after a driver attempted to cross a flooded driveway in Spring Hill, Tennessee, on Wednesday, December 7, as heavy rain fell in parts of the state.

Video taken by Bryan Tucker shows the van slowly drive down the driveway, before getting pulled into the current.

Speaking to Storyful, Tucker said that he arrived at the site to work on house renovations when he saw another construction worker attempt to leave and head home.

While Tucker tried to persuade him to not cross the flooded driveway, the man drove through and the van ultimately ended up washed onto a side bank in the nearby creek. “He just wanted to get home,” Tucker said.

The National Weather Service responded to the video and cautioned residents to turn around when approaching flooded areas. “It’s really NEVER worth the risk to your life,” the weather service said.

Parts of the state saw up to 3 inches of rain in 48 hours, the NWS said. More rain was expected through Sunday. Credit: Bryan Tucker via Storyful
