Vance: Trump ‘amazingly’ in good spirits after apparent assassination attempt

Republican vice presidential nominee and Ohio Sen. JD Vance said Sunday he is “glad [former] President Trump is safe” in the wake of what the FBI has described as an apparent assassination attempt.

“I’m glad President Trump is safe,” Vance said on the social platform X of the situation, which the FBI said it is responding to. “I spoke to him before the news was public and he was, amazingly, in good spirits.”

“Still much we don’t know, but I’ll be hugging my kids extra tight tonight and saying a prayer of gratitude,” the Ohio senator continued.

Earlier Sunday, Trump’s communications director, Steven Cheung, said that “President Trump is safe following gunshots in his vicinity.” The Associated Press reported that in Florida, the Secret Service fired shots toward somebody viewed as a possible threat in the former president’s vicinity.

“I have been briefed on reports of gunshots fired near former President Trump and his property in Florida, and I am glad he is safe. Violence has no place in America,” Vice President Harris said Sunday on X.

Trump said in a fundraising email that he “will NEVER SURRENDER” in the wake of the incident.

“There were gunshots in my vicinity, but before rumors start spiraling out of control, I wanted you to hear this first: I AM SAFE AND WELL!” the former president said in the email sent Sunday.

“Nothing will slow me down. I will NEVER SURRENDER! I will always love you for supporting me,” Trump continued.
