Vancouver Police Hunt Suspect in Assault of Passenger Defending Asian Women From Racist Remarks

Police in Vancouver, Canada, are seeking the public’s help in identifying a suspect who allegedly attacked a woman on a bus in April.

According to police, a man boarded a bus at Main Street and East Hastings at 4:45 pm on April 15. Two Asian women, both wearing face masks, got on a short time after.

Cellphone footage released by police shows the suspect on a bus. The video does not include audio.

Police said man looked at the women and said something like, “Go back you your country; that’s where it all started.”

A woman sitting across from the man told him to leave the two women alone, which, police said, led to an argument between them.

Police said the man is alleged to have jumped up and kicked the woman in the leg. The victim, police said, had her hair pulled so hard that a large clump of it came off. The suspect then allegedly punched the woman multiple times in the head, and wrestled her to the ground.

The suspect exited the bus near Commercial Drive and East Hastings.
