Vandals Attack Ambulance While On 999 Call

Police are investigating after a brick was hurled onto the windscreen of an ambulance as paramedics treated a patient in Birmingham.

West Midlands Ambulance Service was treating a patient with severe abdominal pain at a house in Chipperfield Road in the early hours of Saturday morning when the incident happened.

Paramedics discovered the damage when they returned to their vehicle.

A second ambulance had to be called to the scene to take the patient to hospital.

Ambulance spokesman Nathan Hudson said: "This is an incredibly disappointing case which not only delayed a patient's onward care in A&E but also means we have an ambulance off the road and unable to respond to 999 calls whilst it's being repaired.

"Thankfully my staff weren't hurt but they were understandably upset by the incident. Ambulance staff are here to help people in an emergency and it's extremely sickening to see incidents such as this."

The incident has been reported to the police who have launched an investigation.
