Vandals cause minor damage at Carthage's Kiddieland

Mar. 27—CARTHAGE, Mo. — Vandals caused minor damage at Carthage's Kiddieland amusement park in Municipal Park just off Route 66.

The damage happened sometime between March 5 and March 24.

Kiddieland is closed for the season until Memorial Day weekend, May 27.

Bill Barksdale, an officer in the Carthage Kiwanis Club, which operates Kiddieland, said he met with Carthage fire Chief Ryan Huntley at the park Sunday to discuss operations in the summer when he noticed the damage, which he estimated at a few hundred dollars.

Barksdale said shingles were pried off the ticket booth roof, wooden fins were broken on two of the planes on the airplane ride, a fire extinguisher from the train appears to have been discharged on the carousel ride, a wooden box was moved to allow access to the gears on the kiddie cars ride and other minor damage was discovered.

Barksdale said the club is offering a reward for any information about the person or people who caused this damage.

Anyone with information also can contact Lt. Trevor Hole of the Carthage Police Department at 417-237-7200.
