  • Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler allegedly discussed the possibility of getting engaged before they ultimately broke up.

  • After being together for eight years, the couple reportedly called it quits on their relationship due to scheduling conflicts and long distance issues.

  • Despite the split, it was also previously reported that there is hope for a future reconciliation.

Before they broke hearts nationwide with their unexpected breakup, Vanessa Hudgens and Austin Butler first considered getting married.

A source at People divulged that the two put marriage on the table before they called it quits on their relationship. “They had talked about an engagement before they split up,” the insider told the outlet. “They really loved each other and have been through some of their toughest life moments together."

Despite their eight year-long connection, they broke it off due to “busy work schedules and travel definitely put a strain on the relationship,” according to the source, echoing a previous sentiment made by a source at E! News. “They were a wonderful couple and it’s really sad that it didn’t work out,” People's insider continued.

The Princess Switch star previously opened up about her vision of marriage in a 2018 interview with Women's Health, indicating that a wedding wouldn't be in her future any time soon.

"I want to get married, travel, then have kids—probably in my late 30s," she said. "Everyone's clock is different."

Last July, Butler gushed about his then-girlfriend to E! News. "It's hard for me to even put into words what that girl means to me," he said on the red carpet during the premiere for Once Upon a Time in Hollywood. "I am so inspired by her everyday and I just love her to my core."
