Vehicle bursts into flames on busy Aberdeen road near airport

A vehicle burst into flames on the A96 on Saturday afternoon, prompting traffic delays in Aberdeen near the city's airport.

Emergency services were sent to the scene just before midday, with the fire extinguished soon after.

Two appliances were dispatched by the Scottish Fire and Rescue Service. It is unknown if there have been any injuries.

The occupants were understood to have exited the vehicle as the fire took hold, writes the Daily Record.

An image from the scene taken by Fubar News shows the vehicle engulfed in flames, with smoke billowing into the air.

Traffic was restricted in the area after the incident, causing delays of up to half an hour.

A Scottish Fire and Rescue spokesperson said: "We received a call about a vehicle on fire on the A96 at around 11:58am. Two appliances attended and the fire was extinguished."

Police Scotland has been approached for comment.
