Vehicles Submerged as Cyclonic Storm Leads to Deadly Flooding in Sicily

Two people have died and another is missing after intense storms brought severe flooding to parts of Sicily on Tuesday, October 26, Il Giornale reported.

A 53-year-old from Catania became the second victim of the floods, after a 67-year-old man was killed on Sunday in the town of Scordia, the paper said.

Emergency services are still searching for the first victim’s wife.

3BMeteo reported that up to 350 mm of rain fell in the province in the space of just 72 hours. The area’s typical annual rainfall is approximately 600 mm, they said.

Italy’s national firefighters said on Tuesday that it had carried out 300 rescue operations due to the flooding.
