Scarlett Johansson, Adam Driver, Laura Dern, Alan Alda, Ray Liotta and more turned out for the Venice Film Festival premiere of the upcoming Netflix movie Noah Baumbach's 'Marriage Story.'

Johansson opened up about how the movie, which is about the end of a marriage and the pain of divorce, was a story that she immediately related to when she met with Baumbach to discuss the film.

"I was actually going through a divorce. I didn’t know what we were going to talk about….I just kind of blew into the room, ordered a glass of white wine and started complaining," she said. “And he was just listening and very attentive. And then he kind of cut it short and said, ‘Funny you should mention it.’”

The actress divorced from actor Ryan Reynolds in 2011 and French editor Romain Dauriac in 2017. She's currently engaged to Saturday Night Live star Colin Jost.

According to Variety, Baumbach warned her, “This is probably a project...that you are either going to really want to do, or not."

Johansson recounted, "It felt sort of fated in a way. It was an experience to share with him and have him share with me. And it somehow came at just the right time.”

Baumbach had equally close ties to the story. He previously worked on the 2005 film 'The Squid and the Whale,' which explored his parents' divorce. He divorced actress Jennifer Jason Leigh in 2013.

For the photo call, the movie stars posed in laid-back outfits, with Johansson opting for a Michael Kors striped crop top and belted trousers.

Dern opted for a strapless black and red Dior dress.

In the film, Johansson and Driver play the couple getting divorced. And while they strive for a conscious uncoupling, their divorce lawyers have other plans.

The movie will show in US theaters for a limited release on November 6 and begin streaming on Netflix on December 6.
