'The Venice of North Carolina': People Paddleboard Through Floodwaters Following 'Historic' Rainfall

People were seen paddle-boarding through floodwaters at Carolina Beach in North Carolina on Monday, September 16, after a tropical storm-like system dumped historic amounts of rain in the area.

The National Weather Service (NWS) said historic levels of rain had fallen across Carolina Beach, Southport, and BSL on Monday.

At Ocean Blvd at Carolina Beach, 18.32 inches of rain had fallen since midnight.

“NOAA Atlas 14 shows 12”/12 hr occurs, on average, once every 200 years. 18”/12hr is once every 1000 years!” NWS said.
