Vera final series plot details 'leaked' by ITV as show set for dramatic climax
Plot details for the final series of Vera have leaked online, with the hit show set for a highly dramatic climax as it comes to and end after 14 series.
Given just how popular Vera is with fans all over the world, there was a lot of upset people when ITV announced in the spring that the much loved Sunday night drama would be wrapping up, 13 years after Brenda Blethyn made her debut as now legendary TV sleuth DCI Stanhope.
Based on the novels of North East based author Ann Cleeves, Vera quickly cemented itself as one of the biggest crime series on British TV, before seeing its appeal spread much further, as viewers in the likes of America, Canada and Australia also became thoroughly invested in the murder mystery exploits of Brenda's famous alias and her colleagues at Northumberland & City Police.

Vera made its return to ITV at the start of this year, pulling in enough viewers to see off competition from BBC smash Call The Midwife's latest series; but now there are just two episodes left in the Vera locker, following the news that series 14 will be its last.
Production on the new tales took place all over the North East in the summer and now an even bigger hint has been given as to the locations that will appear on screen, by way of the synopsises for both episodes. Details emerged online earlier this week for the two mysreries - Inside and The Dark Wives - with a teaser for Inside reading: 'DCI Vera Stanhope is called to the banks of the Tyne where the body of a young man has been discovered by some anglers.
"A tangled web of a broken relationship, secret love, grudges, regret, and fraud begins to emerge – has our former inmate been served cold justice, or does his death run deeper?"
Moving onto what will be the Vera finale, The Dark Wives, the preview added: "The final episode brings Vera back to a familiar place when a body is found at the foot of legendary local stones The Dark Wives – with memories of childhood in the background, Vera must work hard to uncover the mystery of why a bright young student would be violently attacked and left so far from home. This poignant episode weaves together past and present and makes for a compelling and emotional farewell."
It was also announced this week that Vera will get its own ITV spin-off, a special documentary called 'Vera, Farewell Pet' which will look at the enduring popularity of the show, as well as offering behind the scenes insights.
