Vera's Kenny Doughty lands major new TV role alongside famous wife
As his former Vera co-stars prepare to see themselves in the final series, Kenny Doughty has secured a significant new role in a TV drama, alongside his well-known wife Ashley Jensen.
In spring 2023, ITV viewers were disappointed when Kenny, who was the second sidekick to star with Brenda Blethyn in Vera, revealed he had left his role as Aiden Healy after eight years.
Kenny's last scenes as Aiden were filmed at the end of 2022 for the Christmas special The Rising Tide, which attracted a large audience on ITV on Boxing Day last year. Months after leaving Vera, Kenny and Ashley secretly married, making their first public appearance as a married couple at the 2023 Scottish BAFTA awards.

Earlier this year, Kenny travelled to Shetland where she filmed the latest series of the BBC drama of the same name, in which she now plays the lead role. After announcing that he will soon star with Poirot legend David Suchet in the new Channel 5 thriller Au Pair, Kenny has now revealed that he will be starring with Ashley in Wax Fruit, which he described on Instagram as a 'Scottish period drama with wonderful scripts, locations but most importantly characters and stories for everyone.'
The news was first reported by The Herald newspaper, which informed its readers that the 'long forgotten Scottish masterpiece was being 'brought back to life in an ambitious TV production.'
Kenny's followers quickly responded to the news, with one fan, evidently not yet over his decision to leave Vera, saying: "Broken man when you left Vera," while another added: "A wonderful acting couple," reports Chronicle Live.
