Vernon Kay planned surprise wedding vow renewal for wife Tess Daly

Vernon Kay charmed I’m A Celebrity viewers as he revealed he once surprised his wife Tess Daly with a ceremony to renew their wedding vows.

The TV star married Strictly presenter Daly in 2003 and told his fellow campers that five years ago he whisked her off to France to renew their vows.

Kay even surprised Daly with a selection of dresses so she could choose something perfect to wear for the special event.

He shared his romantic gesture after author Giovanna Fletcher asked if he had ever renewed his vows.

“We have done, we did it in France, about five years ago,” Kay said.

“I booked a weekend in our favourite hotel in the South of France and I spoke to her stylist at the time and I said I needed four dresses.”

Once they got to their destination, Kay announced what he had planned.

He said: “I gave her a card and it said, ‘Congratulations on your second wedding day’ and I said, ‘We’re going to renew our vows.’

“She said, ‘I’ve got nothing to wear’ and I said, ‘You say that... pick one’.”

He continued: “We went to reception and her mum, my parents, the kids and my brother were waiting and she was like, ‘Oh my God!’

“We had such a lovely day.”

The story went down well with the other celebrities, with actor and singer Jessica Plummer calling it “a fairy tale”.

Talking in the Telegraph, Fletcher teased that it might give her own husband, McFly star Tom Fletcher, some ideas.

“Vernon’s story is absolutely romantic and wonderful and thoughtful,” she said. “I mean, Tom, if you’re watching…”

Viewers also loved Vernon’s romantic tale.

“How sweet was Vernon talking about his renewal of his wedding,” asked one person on Twitter, while another gushed: “Omg Vernon Kay is actually my ideal man.”

“Can I marry a guy like Vernon please, that’s so romantic to surprise the love of your life like that,” said another.

The latest series of the ITV reality show has been moved from Australia to Gwrych Castle in Wales because of the coronavirus pandemic.
