A Nottingham councillor has urged residents to take part in a design survey for the 'much needed' rejuvenation of a play area. Basford families could benefit from an improved playground at Vernon Park.

Nottingham City Council has asked Basford residents to pick their favourite design for the improvements, with three choices on offer. This plays a key role in securing funding for the project, Basford councillor Linda Woodings has said.

Cllr Woodings explained that the authority has previously tried to secure cash for the refurbishment before the pandemic. She said: "This new playground has been long outstanding as a lot of the equipment is broken.

"We've had a lot of feedback from people saying that it's time to refresh the playground and now we've got a chance to bid for funding. It's very much needed.

"We are trying to get people to take part in the consultation so we can give local families exactly what they want from the new play area. I think the fresh playground will be very welcomed."

Cllr Woodings added that the funding for the project is not yet guaranteed and that community buy-in is needed in order for that to be secured. "We need as many people as possible to take part because the more responses we get, the more chances we have to increase the certainty of the funding," she said.

The first design, Design A, shows a 20m cableway, a Whirlybob, a cobra swing, a turtle shell swing, a communication board and a summit multiplay area. Design B could bring facilities such as an enhanced toddler area, a Saturn carousel, a net bridge and a balance beam.

If chosen, the third design, Design C, could see children enjoy two sliding poles, a climbing net, a spinning gyro, monkey bars, a toddler multiplay unit, a cableway and basketball area and a pod swing. To see the designs and have your say, click here.
