Veronica Mars star Jason Dohring has joined the fourth season of SEAL Team in a major role, it has been reported.

Deadline has revealed that the Logan Echolls actor, who also starred in The Originals and the Kingdom Hearts games, will be playing the role of Lieutenant Commander Whitshaw.

The character is said to be charismatic and intelligent, using his rank and reputation to twist the system to his advantage and cover his own tracks. He's also described as "a formidable adversary", but to whom?

Whitshaw will be part of a storyline involving DEVGRU Intelligence Officer Lisa Davis (Toni Trucks) when season 4 returns next week, but until it does come back, everything is shrouded in mystery.

The show follows an elite unit of Navy SEAL officers, as they plan and execute various dangerous missions on short notice, while also showing how it affects their family lives back home.

SEAL Team, also starring Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Angel's David Boreanaz and Dirk Gently's Holistic Detective Agency's Neil Brown Jr, airs on CBS in the US. In the UK, it airs on Sky One and is available via catch up on NOW.
