Suspect and victim in Houston County hit-and-run had argued before deadly incident, deputies say

HOUSTON COUNTY, Ala (WDHN) –One is dead, and another is in custody after an apparent hit and run in Rehobeth.

Phillip Matthew Deal was arrested Friday evening and charged with Felony Murder. He is accused of killing 32-year-old Michael Arriaga.

Houston County Sheriff’s Deputies say Deal and Arriaga had gotten into an argument before Deal got in his Tahoe SUV and ran Arriaga over. Arriaga had been walking down the side of Hadden Road when he was hit and was pronounced dead on the scene.

According to deputies, after hitting Arriaga, Deal got out of the SUV and fled into the nearby woods. He was captured a few hours later in the area.

Deputies have not released any additional information as the investigation is ongoing.
