Victoria Beckham may be an A-list star, but she has revealed she doesn't have many friends.

The singer turned fashion-designer, 43, said aside from her family she prefers to surround herself with a small group of people she “genuinely” likes to socialise with.

“I’m very close to my sister [Louise] and a friend I went to school with, and then three or four others,” she told ELLE. “I think a true friend understands that you can’t see them as much as you might want, because they’re busy as well.

“Everyone I’m friends with has a career and a family.

“I never, ever feel lonely. I don’t have a lot of friends but I’m surrounded by people I genuinely like to be with.”

Beckham, who runs a fashion empire, said she tries not to travel as she doesn’t like to be away from her children Brooklyn, Romeo, Cruz and Harper for long periods.

But she said there are perks to travelling, such as getting to relax in a hotel bath without interruption.

She said: “I don’t travel much because I don’t want to be away from the children and I need to be in the studio. But if I am away, I tend to take that time for a bit of ‘self care’ and I enjoy being able to sleep because no one is waking me up in the middle of the night. So I never get lonely.

“It’s quite nice, when you’re a working mum, to have a night in a hotel… It sounds silly, but when was the last time I lay in a bath? Everything’s always so quick, quick, quick.”

Beckham celebrated her 43rd birthday on Monday, and was greeted by a crowd of singing paparazzi as she made her way through Los Angeles International Airport.

The mother-of-four also shared a video of her daughter Harper singing Happy Birthday to her before blowing a kiss to the camera.

Beckham captioned the cute clip: “I love u.”
