In light of today being Victoria Day – the anniversary of Queen Victoria's birthday – ITV has released a first-look clip and photo from Victoria's upcoming second series.

The video shows Queen Victoria (Jenna Coleman) and Prince Albert (Tom Hughes) at the christening of their first-born child (also called Victoria) – watch it here:

The upcoming second series will largely focus on mother-of-nine Queen Victoria growing her family – despite the fact the royal herself isn't entirely keen on the rapid family expansion.

Series 2 will again be written by creator and executive producer Daisy Goodwin, and follows Victoria as she learns to balance her responsibilities as parent and Queen.

Dame Diana Rigg will join the cast of Victoria this year to play the Duchess of Buccleuch, while Line of Duty's Martin Compston will be making a guest appearance as social activist Dr Robert Traill.

Earlier this year, Goodwin promised that her series won't be recasting Jenna Coleman any time soon...

"I think we've got quite a long way to go before we need to recast Jenna; we're moving quite slowly through the 1840s," Goodwin explained.

"We haven't even caught up with her real age, so I think Jenna will be on our screens for some time to come."

Victoria returns to ITV in the UK later this year. In the US, the series airs on PBS.
