A body has been recovered from the River Derwent in the search for missing mum Victoria Taylor.

Huddersfield-born Victoria was reporting missing on October 1 this year, having last been seen at her home the day before. North Yorkshire Police, supporting emergency services and members of the local community and Victoria's family have been tirelessly searching for her since her disappearance.

Meanwhile, the community of Malton, where the 34-year-old mum was living, rallied together, organising daily searches over the 22 days she was missing. The search for the bride-to-be and mother-of-one has captured the hearts of Yorkshire and beyond.

On Tuesday afternoon, at a press conference held at Fulford Police Station, York, Temporary Assistant Chief Constable Wayne Fox confirmed a body had been recovered earlier that day, close to where items belonging to Victoria were found earlier this month.

He said: "Today we have recovered a body in connection with the search for Victoria Taylor. The police underwater search team made the discovery at 11.45am this morning in the River Derwent near to where Victoria's items were recovered."

Assistant Chief Constable Fox added that formal identification is yet to take place, but Victoria's family had been informed and were "understandably distressed".

He thanked "all of the members of the public who have made contact with us" and said Victoria's disappearance has had an "impact" on the local community of Malton. He added: "While today's outcome is not what anyone wished for, Victoria's family asked me to express thanks to those who supported North Yorkshire Police and the emergency services... Our thoughts remain very much with them at this time."

Victoria left her home at 9am on Monday, September 30. She was then seen on CCTV at 11.35am at the BP garage on Welham Road in the Norton area of Malton. A further sighting of Victoria was captured at 11.53am on the Monday (30 September) at Malton Bus Station on Railway Street.

Further CCTV footage showed Victoria walking towards the play park on Riverside walk at 12.30pm. Various items that belong to her have previously been recovered from this location.
