Video drive through flooded Cheltenham during epic thunderstorm

Roads became mini-rivers when thunderstorms brought chaos to Cheltenham during severe weather last Friday. It was the opening salvo in a rain bombardment that is continuing today (Monday, September 23).

The town centre was tough to navigate with flash-flooding affecting key routes, including the Prom, St George's Road, Imperial Square and Royal Well Road. A minute-and-a-half video showing a car being driven through the water is at the top of this article.

It was kindly shared with us by Lusy, who wrote: "I had to abandon my usual route after water filled some parts of Cheltenham roads last Friday. I have never seen anything like this, apart from the 2007 floods."

The Met Office has issued an amber weather warning for today with more heavy rain forecast. A number of roads and schools have been closed today due to the aftermath of Friday's thunderstorms and today's heavy rain.
