Video of 'romantic' loco taken by hobbling patient housebound for three months

A recovering patient who was housebound for three months has been cheered up by the sight of a passing Welsh Highland Railway locomotive. Sarah Parry fractured her ankle but is getting better and was able to hobble towards the tracks to take this video as the train travelled from Porthmadog to Beddgelert.

Sarah, who works for the NHS, posted the charming footage on X, formerly Twitter, and has shared it with North Wales Live. She said: "I was out ‘walking’ yesterday as part of my rehabilitation following surgery to repair a fractured ankle.

"I have been bed and house bound for almost 3 months so it feels liberating to have my independence and freedom again. I had actually just limped half way down the lane to Ynys For from Pont Croesor when I heard the Welsh Highland Railway engine in the distance and saw the steam rising through the trees."

The recovering patient, who lives locally, added: "I love this railway for its history, heritage and nostalgia. And of course what could be more romantic than a steam engine heading into the mountains of Eryri?" She also sends her "special thanks" to the orthopaedic surgical team at Ysbyty Gwynedd in Bangor "for fixing (her) ankle so well and for giving me back my country walks."
