Video shows US police shoot dead autistic boy Jeremy Mardis

Body camera footage has shown the moment police officers opened fire on a car, killing a six-year-old autistic boy.

Jeremy Mardis was hit by five bullets in the head and chest, while his father, Christopher Few, was also critically injured.

Officials said officers had attempted to pull over Mr Few, but he fled before attempting to reverse his car into a police vehicle.

Footage of the shooting, which happened in Marksville, Louisiana, has been released for the first time after being shown in court.

It appears to show Mr Few with his hands up out of the car window before officers opened fire.

It also shows the moment an officer peered through shattered glass to find Jeremy Mardis' lifeless body inside the vehicle.

He can be heard saying "hey boy".

Deputy city marshals Derrick Stafford and Norris Greenhouse are charged with second-degree murder and attempted second-degree murder .

Prosecutors said the footage supported their claim that Derrick Stafford had a history of using excessive force.

Defence lawyers said the deputies acted in self-defence and claim Mr Few rammed into a police car vehicle before they fired.

District Court Judge William Bennett said the video did not show Mr Few using his car as a "deadly weapon" at the time of the shooting.

The court heard that 18 gun casings were recovered at the scene, 14 of which came from Derrick Stafford's gun.

Following the incident in November 2015, state police chief Colonel Mike Edmonson said the video was "the most disturbing thing I've seen" .

Mark Jeansonne, representing Mr Few, said the footage showed "this was not a threatening situation for the police".

Derrick Stafford faces trial in October, while Norris Greenhouse's case is scheduled in March 2017.
