300 Workers, 18 Boats Respond to California Oil Spill

The clean-up effort near California’s Refugio State Beach after an oil spill became a 24-hour operation on May 21. There are 300 workers and 18 boats involved after a pipeline burst and spilled 105,000 gallons of oil, 21,000 gallons of it into the Pacific Ocean north of Santa Barbara. The slick covers nine square miles. Investigators are still examining what caused the pipeline to burst.
