800-Pound Giant Stingray Caught in Thailand

American TV presenter and conservationist Jeff Corwin was part of a team that caught what may be the worlds largest freshwater fish documented by researchers. Along with veterinarian Nantarika Chansue and a team from freshwater angling company Fishsiam, Corwin caught and released the estimated 700 to 800 pound (318 to 363 kg) freshwater stingray on Thailand’s Mae Klong River, about an hour from Bangkok.

The huge fish measured 7.9 feet (2.4 meters) wide and 14 feet (4.27 meters) long, according to Chansue’s records. Corwin was in Thailand filming for an upcoming episode of ABC show Ocean Mysteries. Credit: Facebook/Jeff Corwin
