Alaska Sockeye Wildfire Displaces Hundreds

A fast-moving wildfire near Willow, Alaska, consumed 6,500 acres of land and destroyed about a dozen homes overnight, according to local media. Hundreds of people have been evacuated, and firefighters had made no progress toward containment by Monday, June 15. The fire, which started on Sunday, has spread into Willow proper and is threatening multiple businesses and homes.

Matanuska-Susitna Borough officials, which includes Willow, have declared the fire a disaster for state assistance.
