Australian Man Rescued From Antarctica

An expeditioner was rescued from Australia’s scientific research base, Davis Station, on Sunday, March 22. The man was in a serious but stable condition aboard the icebreaker Aurora Australis on Sunday night. The Aurora Australis began its journey back to Australia after the rescue, which Division’s Operations Manager, Robb Clifton, described as a mammoth effort.

“The team have been working through the weekend in very cold, below minus 10 degrees, and at times snowy conditions,” Mr Clifton said. The voyage back to Australia is expected to take about 2 weeks, with the ship returning around 4 April. Credit: Frederiqur Olivier, Kym Newberry and Greg Stone/Australian Antarctic Division
