Australia's Northern Territory Braces for Tropical Cyclone Lam

Tropical Cyclone Lam was approaching the NE Top End of Australia on Wednesday, February 18, bringing heavy rains and strong winds to the area. Sustained winds reached 110 km/h with gusts of up to 155 km/h, according to the Bureau of Meteorology. The cyclone was forecast to move west at 15 km/h as of at 11:01 am local time on February 18.

Public shelters in the Top End were opened for coastal residents in Elcho Island, Cape Shield and Nhulunbuy as they might face a dangerous storm tide triggered by the cyclone center, according to Sky News.
