Bachelet takes Chilean presidency for a second time

Michelle Bachelet has been installed as the president of Chile for a second time. The 62-year-old vowed to stick to her tax-and-spend policies despite an economic downturn: “I know very well what state education can offer a person. I’m a “daughter” of the state education system and my commitment is is that in Chile everybody can have access to the same opportunities. Chile has just one key “enemy”, and it is “inequality”. And only together we can beat it,” she said. Bachelet heads a coalition of moderate leftists to Communists. She hopes her education policies will calm the Chile’s volatile student movement.
