Biden Addresses Concerns Over Refugee Vetting Process

In a White House weekly address, US Vice President Joe Biden focused on the rising concerns over the country’s refugee vetting process in the wake of the Paris attacks on November 13.

Explaining the process, he said: “Refugees face the most rigorous screening of anyone who comes into the United States,” and that another layer of checks had been instituted for Syrian refugees. “There is no possibility of being overwhelmed by a flood of refugees landing on our doorstep tomorrow. Right now, refugees wait 18 to 24 months while the screening process is completed.”

Biden said rejecting refugees would play into the hands of the Islamic State, which seeks to incite fear of Muslims in the West, thus pushing Muslims towards IS and eliminating the “gray zone.” Credit: YouTube/The White House
