Bridge Collapse Closes Highway Between California and Arizona

A bridge on I-10 in Riverside County, California, collapsed on July 19 amid heavy rain that flooded streets. The highway was closed, and engineers were expected to examine the bridge early on July 20, according to a press release. A 30-foot section washed away, a California Highway Patrol spokesman told The Los Angeles Times. One person needed to be rescued and was taken to hospital with moderate injuries.

This video shows the aftermath of the bridge collapse.

I-10 connects California with Arizona and the bridge collapse was approximately 50 miles from the Arizona border. Motorists are being directed to take detours with the highway shut down.
