Busker Drowns Out Religious Mardi Gras Protest

The Sydney Gay and Lesbian Mardi Gras parade kicked off on Saturday, March 7, with more than 10,000 people strutting their stuff down Sydney’s Oxford Street, dressed (or undressed) to the nines to celebrate gay rights. The issue of same-sex marriage is a controversial one in Australia and, over the weekend, broadcaster SBS pulled the Australian Marriage Forum’s anti same-sex marriage TV ad from its Sunday night telecast of the festival.

The ad was original shown the Saturday, March 7, on Channel 7 and 9, while the parade was underway, the Sydney Morning Herald said.
