CERN Collider Smashes Particles Together at Record Energy Levels

Champagne corks were popped at the European Organization for Nuclear Research (CERN) on June 3 when it was announced that stable proton beams were achieved at record energy levels in the Large Hadron Collider (LHC). Rolf Heuer, the director general for CERN, said he was “touched” by what he called “a fantastic achievement”. The LHC’s operation has resumed for the first time in two years, allowing further investigation into the nature of matter. Credit: YouTube/CERN
